ASUS P4P800S-E i848P
Mainboard Wireless Edition Review (1) Oveclocker 26 Dec

ASUS P4P800S-E
Intel 848P chipset is the cheaper single channel
DDR400 chipset that came right after 865PE came into the market. As the 865PE
and 875P chipsets offer dual channel ddr400, not everyone would want to take
advantage of Pentium 4 dual channel architecture as it is more expensive. In
fact, the 848P can be seen as a competitor to the cheaper SiS 648FX and ALi
M1683 chipset.
ASUS P4P800S-E is based on the 848P chipset to
capture the user base where they prefer Intel brand and would not want to invest
additional RAM modules where price is a factor.
This new board supports the newer series of
Pentium 4 with HT and even future generation Prescott. It comes with AGP 8X,
10/100 MBps LAN, HT support, Serial ATA, S/PDIF, 6 channel audio, 8 USB 2.0
ports.
An additional feature on this board is the Wi-Fi
card that comes with the package. You can use this card to login to an access
point. The most interesting thing about it is that it can be turned into a
software access point ! That is to say, it could be your base station.
This board also provides overclocking
capabilities. In our tests, we managed to push our 2.4C all the way to 280MHz
FSB on the GEiL DDR533 module.

ASUS Wi-Fi slot The
proprietary Wi-Fi slot, based on the 802.11b standard, is specifically
designed for the ASUS WiFi-b™ add-on card to set up an environment for home
wireless LAN. The ASUS WiFi-b™ add-on card bundles the exclusive Software AP
(access point) to save the extra cost of an actual AP. In addition, the card
comes with user-friendly utilities and applications that allow quick
connection to notebooks, PDAs and other WLAN peripherals. The proprietary
slot supports the 802.11g standard for future upgrades.
(Note: The WiFi-b™ card with software AP has to be purchased separately)
ASUS CrashFree BIOS2
The CrashFree BIOS 2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in
a support CD.
Users can reboot their system through the support CD when a bootable disk is
not available,
and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process.
ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without
the need to pay for an optional ROM.
C.P.R.(CPU Parameter Recall)
When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open
the case to clear CMOS data. Just simply restart the system, the BIOS would
show the previous setting and then users can amend the CPU setting again.
ASUS Instant Music ~ Lite
No need to boot your computer into the Windows before you can listen to the
music use your desktop system as a CD-Player. You can turn it on & Listen to
