EPoX 4PEA800 i845PE Review (7)
Overclocker 29 Mar 2003

Conclusion

4PEA800 is the latest overclocking board from EPoX. Based on the proven i845PE chipset, it supports the future 800Mhz CPU, Hyper-Threading Technology, 6-channel sound. As it is a overclocking board, the features on this board seems to have only minimal features. There is no SATA, RAID, 1394 etc.

In our tests, we find that the performance of the board on the average. In terms of Content Creation and Business WS, the performance is exceptionally good among the 845PE/GE boards. In terms of 3D performance, it looks like it has room for improvement.

The exceptionally good about this board is its Power BIOS which allows tweaking of the BIOS with large range of FSB and voltage adjustments. Vimm, Vagp, Vcore are all adjustable. FSB up to 250Mhz FSB is selectable. PCI/AGP can also be fixed to 33/66. There are also various FSB:RAM ratios for Async operation. InN our tests, we overclock our P4 1.8Ghz to 2.8Ghz at 18 x 155Mhz at CAS 2.5, 3-3-6 which is not bad.

Documentation is pretty nice and the Debug LED is a nice feature to have. Overall, EPoX 4PEA800 is a basic overclocking board for those who just wants to add on additional features using add on cards. Will this appeal to you ? I do think so if the price is attractive.
