Geil PC4200 256M RAM
module at 280MHz FSB (1)
The overclockers who
played with high FSB modules should be familiar with the brand GeIL.
The PC4200 RAM modules being made to support
higher FSB of 266 (PC4200) is ready to take the full advantages of Intel new
chipsets. The RAM module is rated at CAS 3, 8-4-4. Test Environment :
As we only have a single module, we tested it on the 848P chipset based ASUS P4P800S-E mainboard. First of all, we tested the board under the rated spec of PC4200 which is 266MHz. The system was set to run synchronously at 1:1 with the RAM. To our knowledge, the P4 2.4C is the best as it is one of the best overclocking CPUs available in the market. You can easily overclock the CPU to above 250MHz from 2.4GHz to 3.0+ GHz easily by raising the FSB and voltages for Vdimm and Vcore. We first raise the Vcore to 1.65v and Vdimm to 2.8v and cranked it up to 266MHz FSB (SPD = CAS 3, 8-4-4), the system POSTED, went through the screens and it is rock stable at 266MHz FSB. We ran some benchmarks and it seems to be stable at this setting. Next, we explore how far the stick can withstand. We increase the FSB further to around 275MHz, so far so good. We went to try 285MHz. System is a bit unstable at 285Mhz. We lowered the FSB slowly and also increased the voltages slightly for more stability. We ended up finding the best stable point at 280MHz FSB. Although we are able to run it well beyond 280MHz at CAS 3, 8-4-4, we are unable to even POST at CAS 2, 5-2-2 (6-2-2) above 200MHz FSB at all. In fact, we also tested CAS 2.5, 6-3-3, it POSTED at 200MHz FSB but anything above it, it wouldn't even POST at all. Looks like it could be a BIOS limitation of P4P800S-E ver 1003. In the next page, we post out the screen shots of the benchmarks we ran. Next >>> |
