Recently, SLI can be enabled
without the bridge as demonstrated in our article for two 6600GT unbridged. Now
with 6600LE aavailable in the market. It drives
pricing of SLI systems down.
The 6600LE has a
300 MHz core and 500 MHz memory but only
4 pipelines.
The Samsung RAM is rated 3.6ns (8pcs) on the PCB as shown on the diagram above.
Here comes the question, is
it worthwhile to buy two 6600LE and do a SLI or just
get a 6600GT ? Currently, pricing of a 6600LE is approx.
75Euros/90USD. If you need two pieces, it would costs 150 Euros/180 USD.
A search on
Dealtime reveals the price range USD145-200 or Euro 120-166.
Using a similarly configured NF4 SLI system with Detonator 77.76 drivers, a
6600GT single card would score around 3400-3500 in 3Dmark05. From our initial
tests, the score of the system running 2 6600LE cards only scored 2945.
Based on performance, a single 6600GT is 15% faster than 2 6600LE. In terms of
price, it would be 145USD vs 180USD.
Although the performance might not be that as good as single
6600GT, it does provide an upgrade option. It also supports the PureVideo
playback of HD movies. This is something that is lacking in competitor's cards.
