XGI Volari 8300 1/7
Background It has been almost months since we last talked about the Volari 8300, the PCI Express solution from XGI. At last, XGI is launching its Volari 8300 core. If you remember, we featured the 8300 back in June at Computex and below is a recap of what the 8300 is. The Volari 8300 is the economical solution for home entertainment as it support eXtreme Cache Memory Structure. The software driver allows users to access application of the ControlDeck. With CoolPower II Technology, Volari 8300 decreases the power consumption and increases better video image and performance. This card has 300MHz engine and 300MHz clock speed. The eXtreme Cache Memory uses 64 bits DDR memory. Max 256M Local frame buffer size. It also has flexible frame buffer configuration with local memory and shared system memory. It supports up to 512M total frame buffer size. Accordong to XGI, Volari 8300 was meant to target the value segment especially those who wants better video quality who intends to built a HTPC. XGI believed that delivering video quality is the utmost aim as it is not implemented in competitor's cards. For example, nVidia claimed that they have built-in very nice video processor, however, they have removed important feature such as 3:2 Pulldown bad-edit correction and Inverse Telecine. http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo_support.html Volari 8300 has embedded hardware features which are not present in competing products, such as high quality scaling, 3:2 pull-down correction and inverse telecine. Volari 8300 has implemented Proprietary Video Processor called TrueVideo Engine, and has built in the following features that you dont see in the value-end graphics card.
