Benchmarks - 3Dmark2003/3DMark2005

In this category, we tested 3Dmark03. The NF4 SLI and the ULi M1697 boards uses 2 pieces of Pixelview 6600GT + Forceware 81.98 in standard and SLI mode while the ABIT AT8 32X and ASUS A8R32-MVP uses a pair of Powercolor X1600XT graphics card with Catalyst 6.3 drivers.

From the chart, we can easily see that the Powercolor X1600XT card performs very well in the synthetic test against the 6600GT in a single card configuration. In CrossFire mode (no cables needed), the result is slightly below the SLI platforms. This could be due to the fact that data are being passed within the PCIe bus instead of dedicated paths like the X1900XT CrossFire Ed+X1900XT or the SLI which uses a bridge. I suppose if the SLI platforms are not connected via the SLI bridge, the result would dip by a few percentage points.

From the chart, it is not difficult to see that the AT8 32X seems to perform slightly better in a single card configuration while it loses a bit when it competes against the ASUS A8R32-MVP.

In 3Dmark2005, the CF platform gives a very much higher score compared to SLI boards. A 9392 vs 6495 on the Jetway SLI board. This also seems to be true for the case of card to card comparison. With the Powercolor X1600XT on the ABIT AT8 32x, we get a result of 5489 which beats the 6600GT card on a NF4 platform with a score of 3635. Will this hold true for games optimised for SLI platforms? Lets press on.

Comparing both the ASUS and ABIT board, the ABIT AT8 32x seems to run a bit faster when used with a single card. In a dual card crossfire configuration, it is around 38 points lower than the ASUS board. Would this be indicative of the performance in games? We shall see.
