Interview : What's next for ABIT
Bluetooth 27 Jan 2006
Introduction
USI announced its acquisition of ABIT
Corporation on 25 Jan 2006. So, what is ahead for ABIT in the future? We
did an online interview with ABIT PR manager and he shares with us to ACON,
brand image etc.
Interview with PR
manager of ABIT
1) We have never heard of USI. Tell us a bit more about
them.
USI is a major OEM and ODM in the global market. They are part of the ASE Global
Group here in Taiwan. ASE is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, IC
packaging and testing firms in the world, with a client base covering most of
the top names in the industry. USI’s OEM business includes the manufacturing of
platform chipsets, LCD control panels, laptops, servers and desktops for some
very major players in the industry. With USI’s solid OEM experience, eight
manufacturing facilities and a total of 210,000 square meters of floor space, we
can make sure to maintain the high quality that the ABIT brand has become
synonymous with.
2) Is USI acquiring 100% of ABIT? What about subsidiaries? Factories?
USI acquires the ABIT motherboard brand, its staff (including R&D) and its
patents. The other subsidiaries of the Abit group are not included in the
purchase.
3) Will there be any changes in roadmaps.
With the financial stability and excellent manufacturing capabilities of USI, we
can be sure to see some quite tangible improvements in the ABIT roadmap. ABIT
will be able to shorten the TTM (Time-to-Market) of our motherboard launches,
and we are planning to expand our exclusively high-end products to the
mainstream and possibly the value segments as well. Hopefully we will be able to
start penetrating this market as early as in the 2nd half of 2006. For our
existing segments, we are going ahead full steam, and are planning several
exciting launches during CeBIT 2006.
4) When will the merger take effect?
As there are many details yet to be worked out, the exact time-frame for the
merger is something that is up to the management and shareholders of both
companies to decide. Things are happening very quickly, and we expect to
complete this merger sometime before or in early Q2.
5) How is the morale of the staff at ABIT?
After roughly 15 months of holding our breaths, we can finally start looking
forward again and concentrate 100% on our core motherboard business, without
having to fight vicious rumors at the same time. We are naturally very happy and
relieved to be able to carry on doing what we love – making quality motherboards
for the enthusiast community.
