Introduction
It's good to see that users of AGP based systems have not been totally
forgotten by Albatron. Not so long along the x1600pro was
released as an AGP card. Back then, Nvidia only had Geforce 6 series and 7800GS
for AGP cards. The 7800GS is basically released in a crippled form with locked
pipelines, and costs too much compared to cheaper PCIe solutions which are often
faster.
Recently several card manufacturers have started releasing AGP versions of
7600GS and 7600GT as there are still plenty of users out there with
relatively fast computers that are limited to the AGP bus.
The 7600 series falls under the midrange category in nVIDIA's current lineup,
with the 7600GS backing the budget end of the series.
The 7600GS is a native PCIE design & thus relies on Nvidia's High Speed
Interconnect(HSI) chip to convert PCIE signals to AGP signals.Due to the
addition of the HSI chip & more complex pcb layout, AGP bridged cards normally
cost more than a similar native PCIE card.
However, looking at the latest prices
in Singapore, I see that the price differences between AGP and PCIE 7600GS is
very small & the difference is normally not more than S$10.
The card has a D-sub connector, one DVI
connector and TV out using S-video and composite
with HDTV support.The package also comes with a HDTV
OUT adaptor, 4pin S Video extension cable. There is no software bundle. Only a
driver disc is provided. Hopefully some game demos be included in the CD in the
future as there's plenty of free space on the driver disc.
Anyway it's probably done to reduce cost & the cable bundle is not bad.
