ASrock 775XFire-eSATA2 (Intel 945PL) Benchmarks 8/8
Bluetooth 3 Feb 2006

Conclusion

ASrock 775XFire-eSATA2 is the first board that uses the Intel 945PL/ICH7R board that supports the Presler and Cediar Mill processors with FSB 800/533. It supports DDRII 5333 with a max capacity of 2GB. The board also supports ATi CrossFire technology using a PCIe x16 + PCie x4 (AGI Express slot). It also supports 5.1 audio using ALC660 codec with HD audio. Realtek Ethernet LAN is supported too. There are 4 SATA II 3.0GB/s port supporting RAID 0, 1, 10 , 5 and Intel matrix storage.

In our tests, we didn't have any issues with the board in single or CrossFire mode. The performance levels of 2 x X1300Pro cards seems to work out pretty well in CrossFire as promised.

As for the rear panel, this board supports eSATA. It allows one to connect external SATA II HDD through external harddisk box. This dramatically improves the SATA II performance compared to conventional boxes which uses USB 2.0 or 1394 transfer. We tested the board with a USB enclosure and a eSATA enclosure. It is in no doubt that when the performance levels of disk access in eSATA is almost a 100% faster than the USB enclosure. As the first board to support eSATA, I am impressed by its performance levels. The only irritating thing would probably be the additional SATA cabling needed to wire up the SATA ports to the eSATA ports located at the rear. Well, this might be for flexibility as users might want to have all ports hooked up to 4 HDD within the chassis.

Overclocking features is a bit lacking and the achievable CLK is 220MHz with a locked multiplier on the 820D processor.

Overall, this board is a fast & stable board. It also works in CrossFire mode. Most importantly, it removes the bottleneck of external removable HDD through the use of eSATA technology which runs much faster than conventional USB or 1394 solutions.
