Sony
Ericsson P990i UMTS/GSM 900/1800/1900 2mpixel 3G/PDA phone Review (2)
Interface and Functionality
1 When you first power on the phone, it will ask you if you want to be in FLIGHT mode or Phone mode. There is a short period of waiting time as it initialises the phone. The interface for the P990i is noticably different when the flip is opened. When the flip is closed, it is just like any Sony Ericsson phones, you have the 5 way navigation, the back and clear button as usual. Instant buttons on the right hand side of the phone activates a WEB BROWSER and camera. On the left are two buttons for activating the media player and a back page button. There is also a jog dial and a lock switch to lock the keypad. With the flip opened, you will see the keypad and 4 icons on the launch bar. You can use your finger or the pen provided by the unit to click on the screen just like a PDA. The first icon will show the TODAY Screen which will list down the tasks to do, missed calls, appointments etc. On its second tab, it will show the short cut menu which you can configure the shortcuts. A click on the 2nd icon will show you the main menu where you can access the camera, media player, entertainment, phone, calendar, office, contacts and tools. At the bottom left, there is a grey colour icon (next to the signal strength), a click on it allows you to set new call, mails etc, setup connections, increase the volume and change the time. At the bottom right, there is a Task Manager icon, a click on it shows the task that are still running and recent applications. You can also kill the task if not in use. Below are some screen shots of the interface.
