ASRock 4Core1333-ViiV Intel P965/ICH8DH Mainboard Review - Conclusion
Bluetooth 4 Jul 2007

Conclusion

ASRock 4Core1333-ViiV is a product that I would never have expected it to come from ASRock. Based on the P965 chipset, this board provides amazing performance comparable to the more expensive P35 chipset but at a fraction of the cost. Most importantly, it is future proof as it supports the 1333FSB CPUs too.

On top of the amazing performance, this board also stunned me with its addition of 1394, 5 SATAII ports +1 eSATAII, an AGI Express slot (to enable PCIex4, you need to set the jumpers on board) for CrossFire. Not only that, ASRock uses the quality Intel GbE PHY which is probably the first. The board also comes with some overclocking features with adjustments of the CPUCLK, ASync settings, ram timing adjustments, voltage adjustments. You can check the gallery for more details. Using the E6300, the board is only to be stable at around 380MHz x7.

ASRock is again the first to bundle a DeskExpress  in the package. For those who uses a notebook and has ExpressCard/54 and ExpressCard/34, you can use it to extend your board's capabilities with more USB ports etc. The DeskExpress al;so comes with a 1394 slot. This device is connected to the mainboard through the SATA cables. The package also comes with a 340 pages thick manual written in 8 different languages.

In conclusion, this board is very complete in terms of features. It is comparable to the big brands out there. The package could be better if the DeskExpress is replaced with a 6in1 card reader. My personal opinion is that not many people actually would have use of the free device unless they already own those external cards. The old method of interconnecting eSATA using SATA is a bit dated. Perhaps, the Jmicron chip could be relocated to the rear. This would make the designer neater.
