Some of
the benchmarks were conducted under both Windows XP and Windows Vista, the
result shows games under vista is consistently slower than running under XP. The
good thing is that the differences is small, only 10% at most. The driver is
pretty solid in my opinion. It delivers acceptable performance in both operating
systems. I was expecting worse when it comes to vista gaming, I thought the
performance would cripple to the point where it does not make sense to play
games under vista. However, I was wrong, these games played almost as good under
both OSes.
There is no doubt that the 8500GT could not compete with higher end cards when
it comes to 3D performance. It is still a solid card for daily uses and maybe
some light gaming. The build quality of the card is good, it delivers good 2D
and multimedia performance, and it is very cheap. If you are a HTPC system
builder who does not care much about 3D gaming, this card is a serious bargain
for you. 3D performance wise, I’ll leave it to you guys to judge it yourselves.
This 8500GT could still make some games playable with stepped down visual
settings and lower resolutions. If you could tolerate playing games with
sacrificed visuals, this card could also be a nice bargain.
