Review Conclusion
of
ASRock A770CrossFire AMD
770+SB700 mainboard Conclusion
ASRock never failed to surprise us with their innovative designs. In the past, they used some of the older chipset and create new life for them. This time round, they have created history by enabling CrossFire on the AMD 770 chipset which does not support it by it specifications. In terms of specifications, it does have the usual things you could find on ASRock boards. Most importantly is the support of 140W processors, not many boards out there can do that right now. For overclockers, there is software ASRock OC Tuner. You could also adjust voltage, frequency controls from the BIOS. For energy savings, there is Intelligent Energy Saver that comes to the rescue. In our test with a Phenom 9550, we managed to push the CPU to a high of 285x11. That was not possible with most of the AMD 7 series boards we have tested before. In fact, I seriously wonder why you need the SB750 with the AMD Embedded Controller for AMD OverDrive- Advanced Clock Calibration. The NB and CPU core voltage is increased to 1.4v, HT Link set to auto, vdimm to 2.2v. The rest of the information can be found in the screen shot below. We managed to get it stable at 3.1GHz (11x285). In fact the system starts to get messed up if we push the CPU CLK towards 295MHz. In conclusion, I think ASRock has given a new life to the AMD 770 Chipset. Not only does it work just like it's bigger brothers, it overclocks better too. If you are looking for an entry level CrossFire board at a good price point, the A770CrossFire is definitely worth waiting for.
