ASRock P45R2000-WiFi Intel P45 chipset mainboard review - Introduction

Introduction

 

Last week, we reviewed the ASRock P43 board. Today, we take a close look at another top notch spec board from ASRock, the P45R2000-WiFi.

The ASRock P45R2000-WiFi is a board based on Intel P45+ICH10R chipsets. It supports the LGA 775 for Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme / Core™ 2 Quad / Core™ 2 Duo / Pentium® Dual Core / Celeron®, supporting Penryn Quad Core Yorkfield and Dual Core Wolfdale processors and compatible with FSB2000*/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz, Hyper-Threading Technology, Untied Overclocking Technology,EM64T CPU

This board extends life of your DDR2 as it supports both DDR2 and DDR3 modules. There are 4 x DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting DDR3 1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory with a Max. capacity: 8GB**. With 2  x DDR2 DIMM slots, it supports DDR2 1066/800/667 non-ECC, un-buffered memory with a Max. capacity: 4GB**. *DDR3 and DDR2 are supported separately.

In terms of overclocking, the board has a large range of FSB to choose from. It has voltage options and supports CPU, DRAM, NB, SB, VTT Voltage Multi-adjustment and I. O. T. (Intelligent Overclocking Technology). You can also use ASRock OC tuner to oc the board.

 

This board also feature a Dual GbE port and Wireless LAN ASRock WiFi-802.11g module with 54Mbps IEEE 802.11g / 11Mbps IEEE 802.11b. It also supports Software Access Point mode (AP mode) and Station mode (Infrastructure mode and Ad-hoc mode). For audio, it uses ALC890B for 7.1 CH Windows® Vista™ Premium Level HD Audio with Content Protection and have a  DAC with 110dB dynamic range (ALC890 Audio Codec)

In terms of expansion, the board supports ATI™ CrossFire™ with the 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (green @ x16 mode, blue @ x8 mode). There are also 6 x SATAII 3.0 Gb/s connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5 and Intel® Matrix Storage), NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug functions with 2 x eSATAII 3.0 Gb/s connectors (shared with 2 SATAII ports). The board also has a DeskExpress Hot Plug Detection header, 1 x COM port header, HDMI_SPDIF header etc

 


 

The packaging is pretty simple, it comes with a CDROM/MANUAL, 4 SATA cables, 1 IDE cable.
