Installing Windows Vista Home Premium on ASUS Eee PC 900
Bluetooth 24 May 2008

Introduction

To some, this is not rocket science. Some of you might have already installed Vista onto older systems including P3 etc.

We have got ourselves a EeePC 900 LINUX version. It comes with a 4GB+16GB SSD storage. The challenge of installing it onto a Mobile Celeron 900 system is it's SSD space. How do we get VISTA to install since it requires at least a 16GB to start with ? (Final installation will be around 6-7GB).

As some of you are familiar with tools like Vlite to reduce the core to bare minimum. We did not bother to spend time meddling with settings and burning ISO. Instead we used the original VISTA CD and install it via our USB HDDVD drive, the XBOX HD DVD drive.

The procedure is very similar to what you do for a PC Mainboard. Press F2 after powering up. We went into the BIOS and set the first bootup device to be the Toshiba HD DVD drive. After a while, the CD spins up and Windows VISTA installation begins.

It will take some time to load up the files required. After which, it will show you the screen asking for the language locale etc for the 2nd installation phase.

The tricky parts comes. As this is a 4GB+16GB SSD LINUX variant. We would want to remove all the partitions. Just select the HDD 1 and remove all partitions. After which, create it as a whole 4GB partition by selecting NEW and Format as NTFS. You may want to format the HDD 2.

As VISTA requires more than 4GB, we will install it on the 2nd HDD, the 16GB single partition.

It will go through the usual vista installation steps as seen on the screen below.
