Review : Introduction
to ECS A780GM-A AMD 780G+SB700 mainboard
Introduction
Do you remember the old black PCB K7S5A. ECS latest Black series kind of brings
you down the glory days of the old board that brought back lots of memories.
Today, we take a look at our 5th AMD 780G, the ECS
A780GM-A based on the AMD 780G / SB700 chipset.
Based on the AMD 780G+SB700 chipset, this board supports the Phenom, Athlon 64
X2 CPUs. Although there have been a lot of talk about the 125W TDP support on
this board, ECS has made it clear on it's website that the 9850 is not in the
supported list of CPUs.
With it's integrated DX10 graphics, it paves the way for running applications
that takes advantage of it's compliance. With the improved integrated GPU, it is
able to take advantage of Hybrid CrossFire X technology. This allows the board
to speed up the performance of the PCIe graphics card by tapping onto the
integrated GPU.
Sometimes, it is difficult to build a board that is cheap and feature packed.
ECS maintains the D-SUB and do away with the DVI-D interface. It is replaced it with a HDMI
interface. The HDMI port supports HDCP function to enjoy better quality
with High Definition HDCP Encryption contents. With it's integrated RV610 level
graphics, it decodes bluray h.264 movies with ease.
In terms of expansion, the board has 6 USB (behind, 6 more can be connected via
brackets), 6 SATA II ports (1 shared with eSATA port) for RAID 0,1,10,JBOD. It
also has a PCIe GbE, 7.1 channel audio. There is also a PCIe x16 Gen 2 slot for
external graphics card use or pair up with the IGP for Hybrid Crossfire.
The package is also very simple with just the manual, cdrom, 2 SATA II cable.
