Introduction

The Intel 80579 Smart SoC has a 45% Smaller Footprint with 34% Lower Power as it integrates 4 chips into 1 for smaller form factors. Power required also drops from 31 watts to 21 watts. The intial products will have a speed ranging from 600MHz to 1.2GHz.

As it is a a full featured SoC that meets embedded Requirements. It also comes with integrated Accelerators support with Intel® QuickAssistTechnology.

There are currently >15 projects underway; Future SoCs based on Intel®Atom™processor core.

With this new EP80579 Tolapai, we should be able to see more MIDs and tv boxes using it as a replacement of existing SoC as it has a smaller footprint and consumes less power.

We might be able see this solution used in VPN gateways, security appliances, voip, wireless routers etc. Will we see the next generation desktop PCs CPU/Chipsets merged into a single chip ? Time will tell.
