Conclusion
In our brief test of the MSI Wind Notebook, we find that the larger
screen is definitely a must. The Eee PC though small also comes with a 8.9'
screen. That makes editing of images very difficult unless you are talking about
channeling the video output to a large LCD display.
The unit comes with a HDD, thus bigger capacity than the Eee PC
that offers SSD so far (new Eee PC 1000H uses HDD). As we have seen in the
benchmarks earlier, HDD still offer a cheaper and better storage in terms of
cost/performance. Unless you jog while you surf or you listen to MP3 with your
notebook on in your backpack, i think having SSD isn't very practical for such
notebooks.
The Keyboard is also another plus in comparison to the Eee PC
series. I have also checked out the HP 2133 keyboard and found it to be the most
suitable for writers and editors that needs a mobile unit for online reporting.
Maybe MSI can do something about it's keyboard in the next edition.
For multimedia playback, the MSI Wind PC has no
problems handling even 1080p clips using classic mediaplayer. Just be prepared
to see your CPU utilisation goes rocket high that is all. Divx, youtube plays
smoothly too.
In conclusion, I think MSI Wind PC is a good alternative to the others like HP
2133 or Eee PCs. If the price doesn't reach the levels of a conventional 12"
notebook, the Wind PC is definitely worth considering for the mobile warrior.
