Video review of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
OCWorkbench team 3rd Oct 2008

Conclusion

The wait is over and we see the first touch screen phone from Nokia. As we tested the various functions of the phone, we see great satisfaction with the phone as there is practically no lag in the response.

A lot of people like to compare touch screen phones to the iPhone. Seriously, to call it a Iphone killer would be far fetched. I don't think the UI is comparable. The nearest to the iPhone could be the HTC Touch Diamond while the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic seems to be more like the traditional WM6 phone as it still requires a stylus or the spectrum to scribble handwriting and to maneuver  between the menus.

One thing I like is the contacts bar and media bar. It gives you instantaneous access to commonly used functions. Unfortunately, the media bar can't be customised to your own liking.

I also like the 16:9 aspect ratio screen, this allows videos to be display in the correct size if you intend to watch some videos of that. The add on feature of TV-out also makes it a PMP. This was not emphasised though

For those who surfs the web, you would have noticed the exploding adoption of flash media in websites. The XpressMusic 5800 is probably the only phone that supports it out of the box. At least we won't be seeing crippled content sites on the mobile screens.

Something that caught my attention is nokia maps. Now you can send your favourite locations like pubs or happening places to a friend and he can track his way to find you using the Maps via GPS built in.

Being Symbian is good as it has a wide variety of softwares available. For those who uses Sybian OS, you are probably aware of the stability of it in comparison with the others available.

In conclusion, i think Nokia has come out with a mid price range touch screen phone that will appeal to the vast majority. Although it works, it still requires time to evolve, to create something as user friendly as the iPhone or HTC Diamond Touch.
