Conclusion

Samsung SGH-U900 is the slim down 5 megapixel camera phone in answer to it's competitors. You will find that a lot of the features are quite similar to the SGH-G800 that we have reviewed before.

As a slider, it has the camera embedded within. It is a bit irritating to some extend every time I need to slide it up before I can take a photo. I particularly like the haptics feedback when I press on the icons on the DaCP but It would be nicer if Samsung replaces all the navigation buttons to a full screen touch based menu.

Features wise, this phone supports the latest HSDPA at 7.2Mbps which is the highest available right now. If you are subscribed to HSDPA plans e.g. M1 broadband, Singtel Mobile broadband, you will be able to use the phone as a wireless modem with speedy connection of up to 3.6Mbps. As for Starhub Maxmobile, you should be able to achieve a theoretical speed of a maximum of 7.2Mbps depending on location.

The focus on this phone is the camera features. Yes, it is a 5 megapixel camera phone.  With it's auto focus, it takes good pictures with auto-focus. After looking at some of the shots, we find that the default auto settings seems to be on the brighter side. So, you might want to consider using image editing tools to adjust some settings to your liking.  This phone also support a bigger 8GB SD instead of the 4GB on the G800. Thus, you can put all your media files in external storage.

In terms of applications, the built in RSS reader is an excellent software that I used everyday to get updated with the latest news. The preinstalled Google Mail and Google Search is another plus. Well, to add on, you can always download the J2me applications using the web browser or you can install opera. FM Radio is also on this phone which gives you more entertainment on the go in addition to the music player for your mp3s.

Overall, the phone is a an art piece by itself. It is a pity that it is still not fully touch screen capable except for the DaCP. It would definitely be nice to have a touch screen with haptic feedback.
