ASRock M3A790GXH/128M AMD 790GX+SB750 Mainboard - SiSoft Sandra 2009
Bluetooth 18 May 2009

Benchmarks

Using the AMD Phenom II X3 710 processor, we tested the mainboard against the ASrock 780GMH/128M using the same ASUS EAH4870X2 graphics card with the same ATi drivers 9.3 patch. In this test, we didn't turn on the AOD ACC as this will enable the 4th core.

The ASRock A780GM/128M was running 2 pcs of 1GB Kingston DDR2-1066 modules at C5-7-7-24-2T while the ASRock M3A790GXH/128M was running a pair of (tri channel modules) the HyperX memory at DDR3-1600 at C9-11-11-29-2T. Will DDR3 give it an advantage over the lower latency in DDR2??

Ok here is the verdict. Using Sisoft Sandra, we check out the memory bandwidth of both boards. For both Int and Float benchmarks, we can see that the DDR3 gives memory bandwidth a boost of over 63%. That is an amazing improvement from DDR2 to DDR3. Will this have any impact on other benchmarks, let's read on.

Arithmetic Processor test

As we can see, the memory bandwidth doesn't have much impact on the CPU performance. The results are very close to each other, esp. Whetstone iSSE3 results, the difference is only 100 points. Dhrystone ALU gave a larger margin of 800 points difference.

Multimedia Processor test

The improvement in Multimedia test is also quite limited. The float test gave a 300 points difference whereas in iNt x4, the improvement is negligible.
