ASRock N7AD-SLI mainboard runs both SLI and CrossFire
Bluetooth 4 March 2009

Introduction

Do you remember the old days when we were looking for hack drivers running SLI on ATi or Intel chipsets or vice versa ? Some were successful and some were not. In fact, there was once we see ULi based ASRock boards able to run hacked drivers to support SLI using a software patch.

Today, it is fortunate that we have the Intel X58 chipset for the Intel platform. As the only platform that supports ATi's CrossFire and NVIDIA's SLI, boards based on this chipset are rather expensive as they claimed to support the best of both worlds.

Today, we take a look at an entry level chipset that supports the Intel LGA 775 Core 2 Quad/ Dual processor. According to a press release issued, ASRock claims that it can run both SLI (it is a NF 740i SLI chipset) and also CrossFire.

We were wondering, do we need some hacked CrossFire driver to get it working? Read on to find out more.

Here is a picture of our setup.

We used two pieces of Palit Radeon HD 4850 running on a E6550 Intel LGA775 processor. The RAM used is 2x1GB of Kingston DDR2-1066 module. Power Supply is a Gigabyte 800W. The two cards are connected using a pair CrossLink Bridge.
