AMD RS780 is 261% faster than AMD 690G in 3Dmark06
Today, AMD announces the AMD RS780 chipset in China. We have got hold of a unit and doing a review of it. At the mean time, we have discovered amazing benchmark results.
Using an AMD ATHLONX2 5000+, 2GB DDR2-800 Corsair memory. We test run 3Dmark05, 3Dmark06 and FEAR under VISTA Ultimate using the integrated graphics on a 690G board and RS780 board. Here are the results : 3DMARK05 @690G=1105, @RS780=2495 Vista Experience Index @690G=3.1, @RS780=3.5 FEAR DEMO @690=15FPS, @RS780=29FPS 3DMARK 06 @690G : score=321, SM2:147, HDR/SM3=0, CPU score = 1860 3DMARK 06 @RS780: Score=1162, SM2:380, HDR/SM3=441, CPU score 1869 In terms of 3D graphics performance, AMD RS780 is 2x faster than AMD 690G. In 3Dmark06, the difference is shocking, 1162 vs 321. That is 3.6X difference. Stay tuned for our review. |
Yeah, but I don't think anybody sane would try to play games on either, and there's not much difference between IGPs for 2D performance these days. It's all down to the video decoding acceleration features now, I suppose, if HD really is about to take off (although I suspect that mainstream CPUs will be fast enough to decode H.264 1080p long before most people have HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drives in their PCs. We're already nearly there, especially now Intel have moved the Celeron over to being a dual core product too.)

Hi bluetooth, thanks for the good review. Could you be so kind and do one of the next RS780 board tests (if you plan any ;-)) with a Phenom ? I know that this sounds stupid on the first impression, but I wonder how much of an improvement Hypertransport3 will bring to the graphics performance. HT3 improves the bandwidth between CPU & chipset, thus it will increase the memory bandwidth for GPUs integrated in the chipset, too. thanks a lot Kiiji |
I don't have a phenom 9500 or 9600 right now.
The probably improvement would be the 3Dmark06 in CPU scores giving it a big boost in the score. |

just keep it in mind, maybe you will get a Phenom sometime in the future :) If you are also interested in the graphics performance you may try to overclock the Hypertransport bus. I saw people running it up to 1500 Mhz, with their K8 CPUs & 770/790 series chipsets. Naturally nearly zero performance increase on the desktops, but the 780 might benefit and score a higher fillrate. But I guess you are rather busy ;-) Anyways thanks for your fast reply ! Kiiji |
I did test out the GPU CLK raising it to 600 or even 700mhz. The result is the same. I suppose it is a BIOS bug right now.on A01.

However that is GPU OC. What I was referring to would be memory oc, as the hypertransport bus is 780's memory "bus". As the memory connection is the main bottleneck of most integrated designs, I am curious about the benefits of overclocking the hypertransport :) Kiiji |
