From our usual source of information, the Intel X38 chipset is slated to be launched on the 9 sept 2007. Intel X38 chipset targets end desktop market and is to replace the old 975X chipset. Intel X38 chipset is the highest end chipset in the Intel line, one level above the P35 chipset. The X38 chipset supports PCI Express 2.0 standard and Crossfire in Dual PCIe x16 configuration.
Boards based on X38 chipset supports DDR3 memory ensuring compatibility with SPD extensions called XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles). A software utility that comes with X38 will also be included for overclocking. Expect X38 boards to make its first appearance in middle of september at a price tag of USD 200 and above.
