As you are probably aware, the merger of ATi into AMD has brought a dynamic change to the chipset business.
In the discrete chipset front, NVIDIA hasn't been pushing new chipsets of late as it has re-focused onto the Intel platform. The latest chipsets were NF 520 and NF 560 which the later is supposed to be AM2+ compatible.
NVIDIA has been selling lots of chipests because of the wide acceptance of AMD. Now with AMD selling AMD/ATi chipsets, the sales figures will tell you that the acceptance level of AMD chipsets (formerly ATi) is growing.
The first thing we saw early this year was the AMD 690G vs NV7050-630A. In China itself, the AMD 690G board was well accepted. Although NV7050-630A came one month later, it wasn't able to sell that well, probably due to pricing.
At the end of November, AMD will unveils it's new chipsets, the much talked about 770, 790X and 790FX, these 3 chipsets will sell before NVIDIA
In China, AMD has already put up the suggested pricing for the 700 series boards. It is quite a surprise to see that the high end 790FX is set to around RMB 899 (~ 120 USD) while the mid range 790X at 699RMB (~95 USD) and the lowest end 770 at 599RMB (~80 USD)
AMD 770 (RX780) RMB 599 (~80 USD)
AMD 790X (RD780) RMB 699 (~95 USD)
AMD 790FX (RD790) RMB 899 (~ 120 USD)
That is very cheap considering the 790FX which supports Dual PCIex16 or CrossFire X with 3/4 slots. So far, we haven't heard any new NVIDIA chipset to counter the three chipsets (although we reported MSI has 750a/780a boards
here). There seems to be a 750a and a 780a in the works or NVIDIA is busy with their 750i and 780i for Intel LGA775.
