Default PT8800 Pro/Ultra compatibility issue with 8800GT

ASRock says :

We found that VIA PT880 PRO/Ultra chipset does not support GEN2 mode VGA card.

The only solution is to set 8800GT PCIE VGA card to GEN1 mode.
We have tested ASUS EN8800GT PCIE card.

After flashing GEN1 mode BIOS for ASUS EN8800GT PCIE card, it works fine on PT880 PRO/Ultra chipset motherboard.

If user asks the issue, please suggest to user to contact VGA card vender to get the VGA BIOS with GEN1 mode for your 8800GT PCIE VGA card

That's rather shocking that they suggest that. Its no big deall in my book as both of my cards do not have their original bios anyway, but I can't believe they are telling users to do that.

With thinking like that, why not switch motherboards instead, it's not Nvidia's fault, it's Asrocks'.

The way I understand it there just isn't a choice...

It isn't a MB BIOS problem it's the VIA Chipset itself
that cannot recognize the PCI-E 2.0 signature...

Flashing the card to an earlier PCI-E 1.0/1.1 BIOS
makes it possible for the "Chipset" to recognize the
signature and therefore work with the card...

From what I gather, they're giving people with the
VIA PT8800 PRO/Ultra Chipsets a work around so they
can use their 8800GT's...

At least that's my take on this...

(Unless I'm completely off track... )

i donot think it is asrock's problem alone , nvidia cards have long history of troubles with more than one board unlike ATI why should the 8800 has that drawback with the board and the 2400 can go?

Because the 2400 isn't PCI-E 2.0...

I think you are confusing the 2400 with the 2900. The 2400 is a low end part.
