Thumbs down Compatibility and Stability issues plague Zotac 8800GT graphics card

Zotac 8800GT has issues with ASUS and ASRock boards

According to users report from the forums. A number of users are experiencing weird issues with the Zotac 8800GT cards on various boards.

One common problem is with the ASRock PT880 series of boards. Apparently, the board works well with all PCIe 2.0 cards from ATi but the Zotac 8800GT doesn't seem to be backward compatible with the older chipsets.

In another user report, he uses the same card on a ASUS Maximus Formula. He claims that he get 3Dmark06 Pro that comes with the ASUS Maximus to run at all.

Users should be aware of such issues and decide if they want to wait for the 8800GTS (G92 edition) or go ahead with a HD Radeon 3850/3870 which should be cheaper and probably less problematic with different mainboards.

Post My findings so far...

Some issues seem to be temparature related.

As a matter of habit, I use Rivatuner to control vidcard fan speeds. Seems if you don't use the latest RT (v2.06) to do this, the Nvidia drivers (169.02 or 169.04) don't work (or are broken). This can lead to random freezes/shutdowns and/or video corruption.

I'll be trying out SLI over the weekend, which means a 680i chipset, let's see what this turns up.

HTH,
;-)
