NVIDIA to rename GeForce 9800 GTX+ as GeForce GTS 250; nForce 780a SLI renamed as nForce 980a SLI
It is reported that in March's CeBIT 2009, NVIDIA will be announcing a new card - GeForce GTS 250. While most of our readers are excited over new releases, the GeForce GTS 250 might not be the case. This "new" card is purely a renaming exercise. In fact, it is just a 55nm G92 GeForce 9800 GTX+ in disguise.
Similarly, nForce 780a SLI will also be renamed as nForce 980a SLI. There is no change of specifications.
The 9800 GTX+ GPU is coded as G92-420-B1; ID 0x0612, the GTS 250 shall be G92-421-B1; ID will be updated via BIOS upgrade to 0x0615. Both the old and new card as identical specifications. GPU Core runs at 738MHz, Shader processor clk at 1836MHz, GDDR3 at 1100MHz. The difference is purely the sticker on top of the card.
Presumably everything is similar, the price won't be that much of a difference too.
