AMD requests manufacturer to remove buggy BIOS that enables 4th Core on the Phenom II X3 processors

After yesterday's report of enabling the 4th core on the Phenom II AM3 x3 710 and x3 720. It is said that AMD TW has requested all manfuacturers not to release the "bug" bios. They are also advised to patch up the bug with new bios revisions.

If you are currently running the AM3 Phenom II X3 710 or 720 and is able to turn on the 4th core, please send me your BIOS to webmaster at ocworkbench.com indicating the BIOS version and for which board is it meant for.

But the cat is out of the bag and I think that is possible to extract the microcode that is causing this and inject it into ANY bios...! Replacing the originall microcode and therefore enabling the 4th core by enabling the AAC :)

I wonder just how stable these processors actually are with the fourth core enabled...

...I mean it must've been disabled for a reason!?

I heard stable to running apps. but SP2004 might not be too stable. Maybe they were quad cores but were unstable, so they name it as tri core and dump it in the market. Just my guess.

Guys, guys. What do you think? That AMD got speacial line for making 3 core Phenoms and special one for 4 core Phenoms?

It is damn obvious that all Phenoms are made with FOUR functional (!) cores and one is disabled for the 3rd core Phenoms. There is only one reason - profit. It is much cheaper to disable the core according to the CPU ID in the bios microcode that make separate hardware versions of CPUs, let alone separate 3rd and 4rd cores testing... That whould be expensive. The bios trick is not.

Conclusion - that is why AMD is angry now :)
