Personally, I wouldn't touch creative's stuff with a barge pole. I'm sure the power of the card is somewhat marvellous in some way, but from a pro-audio point of view, you would be much better off with something based around the quality of it's components than it's capabilities. I've read that the processing technology onboard wil not help musicians much, as it will force people to use it's onboard effects & synths.
With regards, to creative's technology advances, I doubt that it's entirely true. Most of the cards used had an EMU10K1 chip on them up until a few years ago, and the same chip is in one of my synths which is well over 10 years old.
