Post NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI and nForce 680i SLI chipset

nForce 680a SLI

The nForce 680a SLI chipset is meant for the enthusiast multimedia people. It can support 4 PCIe display using 2 Dual Core CPUs (4x4). It will have 12 SATA II ports support 4 raid volumes, It will support nVIDIA SLI and Quad Gigabit Ethernet with First Packet, it can also support 20 USB 2.0 ports. The two Socket F1207 CPUs talk to each other via a x16 link and first CPU will talk to the two identical chipsets which is labelled 680a SLI. Each chipset supports 6 SATA II ports and dual GbE. You have 2 chipsets, there by you can support 12 SATA II, 4 GbE and 20 USB 2.0 ports. It will be able to support 4 PCIe x16 lanes for graphics cards running in SLI mode.

nForce 680i SLI

nForce 680i SLI supercedes the NF 590 SLI for Intel edition as the highest end chipset from NVIDIA supporting the Core 2 Duo/Extreme/Quad processors. As NVIDIA wants to capitalise on the growing marketing of Intel processors especially the crazy overclocking capability of the E6300. ccording to NVIDIA, the FSB can reach 2.1GHz or 525MHz for a 1.8GHz Conroe processor. This chipset also uses a new DASP 4.0 qwith quick sync. It also comes with a OC BIOS and supports certified SLI memory. With the new 680i SLI mainboard, you can now manage your system BIOS all within Windows. That includes updating the BIOS , Clearing CMOS and setting other parameters.
