It won't boot with older BIOS versions.

gymyforte,

wow! That's a wonderful processor you have there!
AGP/PCI lock definately working too.

What memory did you use? Did you use Guru to overclock from Windows or you boot straigth from BIOS with those settings?

I'm using bios settings and corsair 3200LL...for the test above mem was @ 266 becouse the mem won't run higher than~225 stable. The cpu is not so good..I've seen at anandtech they run ~2,6G@~1,55v,mine need~1,65v for 2,6G(stock cooling) and hit~57C(sp32m)..

Not sure about the first and taking a cpu out of another pc I use is a pain. I have a spare Gigabyte 939 mobo that is already set to work with Winchester cores so I will use that instead.

Both are right. Another option is to hot-flash the BIOS chip of your AV8 yourself.

If you get it up you could compare the two boards.

The problem is, you either need a Newcastle cpu to flash from 14 to 15+ (current latest is 17) , A new bios chip (Abit has been sending them to people who request them, although somewhat begrudgingly) or a hot flash with another motherboard with the same bios chip. I personally hot flashed mine using my Abit NF7-S, but would recommend trying to get a bios chip from Abit first.
There are also a couple online vendors that will sell you another chip. One of them claims to be Abit licensed and will flash the latest bios prior to sending the chip. Google should help you find them if you are interested. A "Bios Savior" and hot flashing is another option, it would essentially be a hot flash, but with a backup.

So?
What's the performance like on this board?

Any comparisons to the S754?

After reading a bunch of reviews on this board, I thing BT may have under-rated it slightly in his review...Many seem to really like it's price/performance, advanced BIOS settings (OC ability) and IO options...
What do you guys think?

This may be my next purchase for S939...it makes my short list.

G

I have both the av8 & 2 kv8's. Both are great platforms. The av8 c/w winnie & newcastles on the kv8's. The av8 tops out at around 275 main c/w tccd (dual channel 1/1 1T). Have had it stable @ 310 main async but benchies were lower. Low latency ram is the way to go with this board.

The kv8's are a solid platform & a great gaming rig. With a single stick of ram(or single sided two sticks) they are pretty good overclockers.

bb55

btw how are you G.
