I use Malwarebytes, and also the built-in program for System Mechanic 14.5.

I think malwarebytes can detect a lots of hidden malwares which WIndows Defender or avg cannot.

Lately I tried an activator and it actually installed a proxy. No matter how you delete it, it will come back. After uninstalling the activator, the system is clean.

Ram Malwarebytes on another PC that was protected and it found 4 pup threats and a key logger. It's a good program.
