Question

Has anyone gotten WOL to work on their mobo? If so, does it only work in standby mode or does it also work in "shutdown" mode?

It should work from a 'shutdown' state, what software are you using to try to wake it up?
Only stuff I've seen is part of Netware.

Look at AMD´s website and download Magic Packet and look for further information.

ftp://ftp.amd.com/pub/npd/software/p.../magic_pkt.exe

Good luck - and tell us whether it works.!

Well I tried a freeware program called "wol.exe" and I tried the "Wake-on-Lan" option on my SMC Barricade and neither attempt woke up my machine (and yes I have the WAKEONLAN bios option checked).

In both cases you pass the MAC address of the machine to wake up. And if my SMC Barricade doesn't know the right MAC address, if got *real* problems...

I also have the WAKEONANYKEY option set and that works fine.

I do remember readng somewhere that on standard PCI NICs that support WOL, the machine must be in standby mode. That sucks because standby doesn't turn-off any fans.

It appears to only work when the system is in "sleep" mode... bummer.

Mine works from shutdown.

Hmmm. I just did a "shutdown" and tried the WOL feature of the Barracade and nothing happened. Booted up to Win98SE, went into sleep mode, did the WOL thing again and it came to life.

Could I ask what bios you are running and what utility/method you are using to send the magick packet?

Thanks.

I only downloaded the program from AMD´s website. I did not yet install it becAUSE I have trouble with ICS. But on AMD´s website, there is some background information which might help.

@ Radarman! Which program do you use to wake the machine?

Regards

Well I DL'd the AMD magic_packet stuff
and ran their utility and it still would
not WOL while in "shutdown"... I'm running
the ECS website 010827 w/LAN version BIOS.

So, If it does work for anybody, please indicate what BIOS version you are using and what WOL utility you used.

Thanks.
