890GX Extreme4 R2.0 8 core not supported

I have a 890GX Extreme4 R2.0 with updated bios to the latest bios but don't have an option under the bios to select 8 core cpu for my AMD FX 8350.
If I set the parameter to auto it detects the 8 cores but the system is completely unstable and crashes or freezes constanty even when set below stock speeds.
Is this a bug? I can only get stability when I set the cpu cores to 6 but that seems a waste of 2 cores doing that.
Anyone got any ideas?
