Maybe so, but no self respecting gamer would run a Mac. I just ordered an EVGA nVidia GTX 760 2 Gig Superclocked last night from Amazon.com. Will get a 2nd on Black Friday for Killer SLI!

Doesn't now - it was after the last site outage a day or two ago...

When HDD can hit RAID numbers like this, maybe I will go back to HDD for O/S ....NEVER!

I should get an 840EVO in workstation when the upgrade comes....

Intel 530, Plextor M5 Pro, Samsung 840 Pro would be at the top of my list without price as a consideration. If I was looking to save some money; Adata SX900, Samsung Evo, Crucial M500.
Frankly any of the newer SSD's are good. You don't hear any major concerns with any of them. I like the units that come with a 5 year warranty as it tells me that the manufacturer is comfortable with long term reliability.

Wink Thanks BT, but ...

I get the black friday stuff sent to me from a few sites including Amazon.

Your WD 2 & 4GB should do nicely for backups & user file storage.
As far as the SSDs go - I am all about the Samsung being the first choice in reliability and speed.
The 250GB 840EVO model absolutely hauls the mail.
I have seen them as low as $169 USD - but the Black Friday quotient is yet to figure in!

You know all about that guy...

Some US sites....

Snoopy has some very good, very valid points to be made & considered!

Happy Black Friday shopping!
And let us know what you decide on & post up your benchmarks...
I am only running on an AMD based SATA2 interface so on this old cheap ASRock mobo I get about 280MB/s - but that's still more than double of any 1TB HDD I have benched on the same hardware including WD which I also prefer!

Best bet is to look up for any drive you may be interested in.
NO.
Samsung builds EVERYTHING under the hood of their products, Crucial uses mostly Marvell and some Indilinx in other better brands.
The SF is generally known as about the fastest out there - but IMO not as reliable as the Samsung MDX or MEX controllers.
Sandisk has a fast drive, I think it uses the Marvell or Indilinx controller also.
Where's Snoopy??

Out of the drives that I listed above, Intel and Adata use Sandforce, Samsung has their own controller and Plextor and Crucial use Marvell.

I just ordered a new Intel 530 240GB SSD for game files on my main computer. Newegg had it listed as a "Shell Shocker" deal for $159. Regular sale price is $259. I couldn't pass it by.
