AMD RD790 gets a new name - AMD 790FX

AMD RD790 chipset is not officially announced yet. Recently we received information that the chipset has been renamed.

AMD RD790 will be renamed as AMD 790FX. No reasons were given about the renaming but we can easily guess that it is more of a marketing reason.

If you remember, ATI RD480, RD580 was renamed as AMD 480X and 580X. Perhaps they want to do away with ATi's naming convention RX, RD, RS for the naming of chipsets. So why use a "FX" ? Perhaps AMD likes the character "F" as used on their CPU "FX" series?

So far, there is no official launch date for the chipset. We assume it to be Oct ober or November, just in time for the upcoming Phenom processors.
