Default L1N64-SLI WS to WS/B via BIOS update

I found article, where there is possibility to update L1N64-SLI WS bios with L1N64-SLI WS/B.

I tried it - Athlon 64 FX-72 x2 and last WS/B bios

Flash finished successfully, board post with no problem.

I replaced Athlons with 2xOpteron 2350 B3 revision and put new DDR2 ECC registered modules - Kingston KVR667D2D8P5K2/4G

Board post on first attempt and works fine for the second week.

Be careful, when replacing DDR2 ECC modules - it doesn't fits very well (too thick PCB) . There is possibility to bend pins

Good luck!

Tried with another CPU and RAM
2xOpteron 8356 ver B3 engineering sample (ZS2308WAL4BGH) with 4x 2GB Micron DDR2 ECC Registered (2GB 2Rx4 PC2-5300P-555-12-J0) - no problem.

I have to use another cooler -
standard aluminium AMD - 72C
Thermaltake Silent Booster copper - 62C

Bad news - Opteron 2350 (1x/2x) and Micron ECC DDR2 Registered are not stable - hangs in Memtest 4.0 in multiprocessor test.
2x Opteron 2220 and Micron ECC DD2 Registered - no problem.
It looks like problem with number of chips - Kingston has 18 chips and Micron has 36 chips.

Micron - 2Rx4 - Dual Rank
Kingston - 1Rx4 - Single Rank

Hi,

I have tried my last upgrade of the computer.
I found an 8GB DDR2 ECC Registered RAM
405478-071 HP 8GB DDR2 PC2-5300P

I bought two for 16 GBP, it works on the first attempt!
Now, I have 8 core AMD Opteron 2GHz with 16 GB RAM!

A new update - machine still works, I bought an 8GB ECC registered RAM x2
Samsung 8GB 2Rx4 PC2-5300P DDR2 240-Pin 667MHz Parity Server RAM Memory

I have a 16GB DDR2 ECC Reg RAM in this 15 years old machine :)
