Good thread! It is hard to imagine how much money has been left in the process.

Let´s see...

Voodoo1, TNT2Ultra, Geforce3, FX5600, FX5900XT, Geforce 6800 and ATi 9800pro@XT

Some steps were an utter waste of money.

Gee, what to buy. The 9800XT is a good card, above that you either look to a 6800 GT or ATi X800 Pro Series. ATi is a must if you want to play HL2 or HL Source Mods

Oh yeah..Trident>Virge DX>Riva128>GF2 MX>GF4 4200>No idea what to get now as nothing seems a good buy for 2 years of use :(

Random integrated things for many years > STB Velocity 128 (Riva 128 - 4MB?) > Voodoo2 12MB > Another Voodoo2 12MB a few months later (SLI! w00t!) > Creative Savage4 32MB > Creative TNT2 Ultra 32MB > Hercules TNT2 Ultra 32MB (Blew the Creative one up! ) > GeForce 256 32MB > nVidia GeForce2 MX400 64MB (Don't ask how I ended up with a reference card) > Gainward Golden Sample GeForce4 MX460 64MB (It cost more than the Ti4200 that hit the market a few weeks later. Big mistake) > Sapphire Radeon 9500 128MB (Wouldn't softmod, and nasty EtronTech RAM) > Sapphire Radeon 9500Pro 128MB (Not really a significant upgrade, but I needed a video card for another machine) > Sapphire Radeon 9800SE 128MB (Another non-softmodder, I figure I won't take that risk again) > BBA Radeon 9800 Pro AIW 128MB > Inno3D 6800 Ultra 256MB (First excessively high end card since the TNT2s :D )

I buy whatever performs best at the time, for the money, so I have a history of both nVidia and ATI cards, and some rubbish onboard things beforehand (of course, the Vodoos and S3 cards are the odd ones out).

I do tend to stick to certain brands of card though, until they irritate me or somebody else comes out with a better version for the same price.

4MB to 256MB in... less than 8 years? I don't even like to think about the things before that ;)
