no fan on chipset, huh? Well, howz this?? :D

But...you're right. If you can find a PCI/AGP lock-with multi-uberBIOS board as cheap or cheaper, you'd be foolish NOT to buy it. This one cost me $79 on special, but I believe it to be better than any K8T800 non-pro board since it has the lock regardless of price. Since multi on the K8 boards will only go DOWN anyway and the 3000+ IS set at 10, the lock is more important, I believe.

You're exactly right, grumpy...and not only that, but the Max3 CAN'T be selling now with the PROs outperforming them, for less...unless you just GOTTA HAVE secureIDE option...ya right... ;)

What kind of overclocks are you all looking to get with the lock? I'll be happy running at over 2.4 ghz. But i dont like pushing the envelope, especially since its taking me so long to afford what i am getting. I dont wanna screw nothing up.

Depends on the cpu (and it's stock multi...) and the RAM you plan to run.
With an 11 multi, 220FSB will get you to your 2400 mark. That means you'll need the 3400. With the 3000 and 3200's 10 multi, you'll have to get it up to 240...That will require some VERY good RAM... ;)

Yeah, thats why im getting the 3400 with the 11 multiplier. I wouldnt want my ram doing 240 because it would be even harder to get the timings i want (2,2,5,2). Im gonna get the Muskin "special222" which i seen doing 220 at them timings already. But its very expensive, especially now.

The KV8 Pro with the K8T800 Pro chipset has been CONFIRMED to have AGP/PCI lock and we do have a beta BIOS that add those values. One of our tech was able to run an Athlon 64 processors with unlocked mutliplier factor up to 270Mhz rock solid. The reviews for the KV8 Pro will start to pop up soon from all the top medias that has a VIA K8T800 Pro reference board to compare with.
