It may be that the SLI Chipset is needed for the dual GPUs to work..no one outside Gigabyte knows..they are keeping it a secret :( It all looks to be proprietry stuff for now, thus it will help sell GB SLI MBs, and a lot of them This is a far superior idea than 2 cards. And in 12 months, I believe a lot of medium to high end Video Cards will be just like this

That is probably their idea.
The fact is that if ASUS or anyone else can come out a similar design but works on all
non-SLI PCI-E boards, it will be an amazing thing
to look out for.

Let me see if I have this right. This basically is a SLI configuration, except instead of using 2 x8 slots, you use one slot with x16 but with 2 GPUs on one card.
I have another question though about this technology. I would like to use 2 video cards in the system separately. Would that work if I have it in 2 x8 mode, since if you didn't have it in that mode, the second x16 slot is electrically disabled?

The board can run in SLI mode or NORMAL mode. in our test of this card, the board is run in NORMAL mode.
If you have two cards 6600GT (non 3D1), you have to enable SLI mode on the mainboard, plug the two cards onto the mainboard.
Of course in the conclusion i did mention that if it is possible to run a pair of 3D1. Some readers said, no golden fingers, to connect the two "3d1" cards, how can it run in SLI mode with 4 GPUs.
Well, nothing is impossible in this world. Just like ATI, they are coming up with a SLI-alike technology that enables hooking up of 2 GPUs without the need of a bridge.
