As far as I know, not the case with Epox 8RDA(+). It unlocks all multis, no matter if the low (5-12.5) or high (13->) multi set is default on the CPU.
|
from the reports I read, that is the case with most nforce2 and Kt400 mb, 8rda+ included.
Most people oc'ing the 1700+ would raise the FSB to 166, or 200. So they rarely run the cpu at above 12.5. In most case they reduce multiplier instead of raising it.
Now Alezz reports that he can't raise to above 12.5, that seems a confirmation of it.

I tried AXP2400+ (default multi of 15) and two AXP1700+ (T-Bred B) - all multis are available and freely changeable, provided the max freq for the CPU is not exceeded.
As I stated before, trying to change multis over 12.5 with FSB of 100 will enable Alezz to see if they are setable (so you take out of equation the HSF and Vcore) - if not, board is faulty. Otherwise, either his CPU can't reach 13*166 with the Vcore set, or his HSF is not good enough for that CPUs speed (and he says so, as well).
Those AXP1700+ T-Breds emitt quite a lot of heat when running above 2100 Mhz.

Have you checked the L3 bridges of your 1700+?
My information is about the early issues of xp1700+, which have the fifth L3 bridge uncut.

Just checked! All L3 bridges are connected. Checked even an older AIUGA AXP1700+ T-Bred A, all L3 bridges are closed.

That may be some updates of the L3 settings by AMD. Early models (2000+ and below) have the first L3 cut, giving them 5-12.5X multiplier)

thanx for your help
I tried 13x100 and it doesn't work but i don't think its the mobo. as you said i might have to do some jiggling on L3 I also heard something about cutting 5'th bridge.
about the report I guess it should display the PR unless you don't use 166FSB or you have an old bios.
I,m now running 2.09Ghz(166x12.5)@1.55v so its well below the 1.65v it was first meant to run so it doesn't generate that much heat. it is 44C idle and 50C at full load. considering that it's pretty hot here 37C at shadow the proc temp is ok for now. I'm pretty shure my equippment is ok so i can only think it might be that L3 that is keeping me from my goal
thanx again for your help
well groovetek i haven't been able to go past 192x12.5 and i guess it's that NB again. anyhow i'll solve this soon
