Default Vista Ultimate Screenshots

Windows Vista Ultimate Desktop

Computer & Networking Windows

The constant User Permission pop-ups! I hope it's only a beta feature...

Office 2007: excel & outlook

I really like the fresh look of Vista and Outlook 2007 Pro.
I'm testing them on an old P3 800Mhz with 700Mg of RAM and with an AGP card that won't allow the 'Aero' feature to run.
Take note of the warnings about CPU and RAM requirements, as you can see from the desktop view there are Windows versions of Samurize/Konfabulator Widgets for CPU & RAM usage. These definitely show that Vista is heavy on CPU and RAM in normal use, never mind when your multi-tasking.
Vista is the perfect excuse for that new superfast Core 2 Duo & 2Gg plus rig..
I really do like the visuals and the layout. Switching back to my XP machine is like switching from XP back to W2k. It looks dull and lifeless.
There are plenty of annoying 'beta' bugs like the nagging pop-ups every time you want to make the smallest change or access a program. Driver support is limited which means my cheap sound card, V56 modem and Gigabyte Wi-Fi card won't work.
But all in all, it looks like a step forward, visually at least.
I'll need to spend more time playing before I can judge if the operation is an improvement. I'll also have to see the final price too :P
I got my Vista sent to me on DVD via FedEx from Microsoft in Singapore and the package included 32 & 64bit DVD's. Well worth the AU$13 carriage over a 8Gig download hit to my account :-D
I'm hopefull that we (the un-official) beta testers get the newer versions to try as soon as the 'official' guys do.
Enough for now FT

People say that the latest version 5456 is faster. I am using Beta 2 myself. Even with 1GB of RAM my computer is still quite slow. Lots of hhd swapping even for simple things like opening the start menu. Here's my computer config:

Athlon XP 2500+
2 * 512MB OCZ PC3200 DDR RAM
Abit AN7
ATi All-in-Wonder 9800PRO Video card
80GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 HDD
NEC 5800A DVD-ROM

I'm running 5456 the latest.

It runs ok but I can never get any of these builds to index any of my files on any of my drives.

Speed is good, Glass runs smoothly, no lockups except when I try to Hibernate the computer or Standby it won't come out of it. (Which runs fine in Windows XP) the Installation is fast and it detects most of my hardware, soon as I activate and run Windows Update it downloads the Realtek Audio driver and NForce4 chipset drivers I reboot and everything is grand.

Overall I'm impressed by Vista but not enough to plunk down £240 for the Ultimate version which in my opinion should be the 1 and only edition offered to consumers.

Vista Home, Home Pro, Ultimate, Business what's the point in all the different versions, just give 2 versions Vista Consumer and Vista Server like Mac OS X.

I'm interested to see if they'll send me the latest version beta and also what happens when the beta expires...
EDIT: or I'll just wait 'til they send the RC1 version :)

How does one check which build you are installing?

Default What do you think about vista?

do u like it?

IMO, vista is quite annoying as for now, it always asks for permission even for minor tasks. the aero UI is pretty and works smoothly, the "wow" factor only lasted about 10 minutes for me, the bottomline, i am not so impressed. other than the OS itself, the installation process is fast and smooth, only takes about 30 minutes or less, which is a good thing.

for those who has tried vista, what do you think?
