AMD isn't dead yet. And I personally don't think that they will ever die. If something is going to happened they will be probably sold to a much larger company. AMD piece of cake in the cpu market isn't large but it's large enough it is interesting for some companies that would like to have own share in the market. And what's even more important have the money and/or technology to help AMD stay in the position where they are or even give them a little boost.
One player on the cpu market will be not good not only for the end user, but for many companies - even those that don't have not much to do with IT market. If Intel would be the only player on the CPU market we would have a situation similar to this we have in OS market. Most of users don't really like MS, but because it's the only OS that can be used by any user it's the only choice.

AMD has been working with IBM on 45nm technology. I wonder if IBM wants to get back in the cpu game like they did before with a partner making chips they rebranded. They could use AMD chips in their blade servers with their name in return for their work on the 45nm process. I think AMD will continute to survive as they have been, making gains when they have an architectural advantage, and losing market share when they don't. The good part is this keeps Intel on their toes and prices reasonable, as well as each company pushing technology for new inovations.

Quick note: Intel Quad cores are shipping with a higher multi, so they are a better chip for reaching higher oc's than the C2D's.

It is the way of the market..one company always leap frogs the other at some point. Sometimes the one with the poorer product does not bounce back. Right now Intel seems better overall particularly if you are building a computer that has to last 14-18 months :(

Long live AMD
Might throw together a 780g to send to my pops. Throw it in a small form factor case and send it to him through the mail or take it with me when I visit later this year. Already have an extra drive and cpu for it and no need for graphics!!!

X79
X79 chipset is the way of the future. Z77 has been played out and nothing new will come out for it. There is more to come out from Intel for the 2011 socket. If I could afford it, I would have the 6 core or even 8 core cpu for my board, but even my quad-core 3820 beats out an AMD 8 core.
