Default How can I move Windows to a different computer?

I ordered a notebook and a desktop computer. The notebook comes with windows 8 installed (I had no choice). The desktop is bare metal.

I do not have either computer yet. I should have them next week.

I want to move windows from the notebook drive to the desktop drive and use windows for the desktop OS. I will use Linux/GNU for the notebook.

Is this possible? Can anyone give me any suggestions?

I am thinking of using dd and directly writing the notebook drive image to the desktop drive. I also have some other imaging software including Norton Ghost.

Thanks

It should work but drivers might corrupt if the differences between the two machines diff by a lot.
