Question

At first - sorry for bad english.

Did someone have problems with primary master HDD, conected to this MB. I don't know when it start to happen, but recently I realize that MB has problems with my HDDs (Maxtor 5T030H3 & WDC WD64AA) when I connect one of them as Primary Master. I already checked 3 cables so I think connection is good.

When Maxtor is connected very often it has problems with starting when turning on the computer (sometimes I have to press reset button for a few times until I'll hear the HDD is running).

WCD - I think the same way, but even when it starts for a first time - every time after reset (hardware or keyboard) during POST the system hangs up for about 20 seconds - like the BIOS is looking for HDD again (HDD is always set to "User" not "Auto").

Tomorrow I will check Primary Slave (maybe Pri IDE channel broken), & maybe try to move back to older BIOS, but if you have similar problems - please help.

Check the drives are jumpered correctly according to there manual, use 'csel' instead of 'master' or 'slave' configuration to see if it helps

Does the BIOS auto detect the drives?

Please list your drive setup/configuration,

I think I do almost have the same problem.
After turning on the PC I can see that the bios
cannot recognize the HDD (Maxtor ata100, 7200) on the primary IDE. (also no spinning).
I does not make any difference while choosing
AUTO or USER, it keeps waiting... The next time turning on the PC there is no problem at all!
More k7s5a users with this experience?

I also have this problem.
Every time i start up, my pri harddrive just doesn't spin up, causing the system to hang, because it is searching for the drive. Try wiggling the drive and/or power connector, this works for me

Hi
Have you tried to remove the Jumpers. This solved the detection problem with a friends WD HDD at his MSI Board. Perhabs it's the same on K7S5A.

I was having the same problem with a Maxtor drive and when I switched that drive over to another system using a Chaintech 7VJL it was still there. Also SMART said the drive was shoot. So as I am typing this I am installing the OS on a new Maxtor that was replaced under warranty. Turn SMART on and see what it says about your drive.
