According to friends who work in the industry, it is said that the GeForce 8800 Ultra will be launched on 1 May and on stores on 15 May.
The GeForce 8800Ultra is a single chipset design just like the G80 (GeForce 8800GTX). It has very similar spec. e.g. 768MB of GDDR3, 384 bits memory width. THe ony difference is the GPU and MEM CLK. G80 was 575/1800. The New GeForce 8800 Ultra runs o/c at
675/2350.
Because of that, a new protruding heatsink is used to cool down the core.
From the specs of the GeForce 8800Ultra, we can see that the Green team is out to kill the ATi Radeon HD 2900XTX. The strange thing is that, the card is highly priced at 999USD and it uses old technology like GDDR3. Does that mean Greenies are confident in its performance of 8800GTX and purposely put up a pseudo model which might not even be on sale (limited units). From all this basic information we have gathered so far, I think it is fairly easy to gauge the performance levels of the upcoming ATi Radeon HD 2900XTX.
