AsRock 939Dual SATA2 Post Error 0078
Hello All,
I have read a few post on the subject but nothig has worked. Basically my board has been running for 2 years and today it will not boot. It starts detecting the drives and stops displaying the famous 0078 code. I have unplugged everything, all drives, all cards, leaving the video card and Memory only. It will go through the initial post and nothing pauses and 0078 showes up. I have cleared Cmos numerous times and removed the battey also and nothing. canot enter setup or do anything.
Any Ideas, is my firmware or boards messed up?
Any info would be helpfull, even if somebody had the same issue and how they resolved, even if that means replacing te board.
Thanks,

Get an account on the AMI site to be able to download their docs(free).
Aaah, here, reads: "Initializes IPL devices controlled by BIOS and option ROMs"
No, i don´t know an "IPL device"...

Thanks for all the input, I left the battery out all day, hopefully a miracle will bring it back if not I will have to go to E-Bay.
Take Care,

According to the docs, an IPL (Initial Program Load) device is one which can be boot from. A floppy hd etc. I'm just guessing here, but try disabling the floppy controller both ide controllers and the sata controllers and see if you can get past the post error. Then, process of elimination.

It works !!!
First of all let me thank everyone for all their input.
It works !!!!
Anyway here is what I did, I had left the battery out all day, I got home and took all cards out and CPU and I blew it all with a compressor. Then I reinstalled the cpu and wiped all the old thermal paste out and put new fresh paste and reinstalled the heat sink and fan. I put in the video card and tried it. The pc posted and I was able to go into setup. I reentered all the info and set my settings and saved. I then shut it down a proceeded to reconnect and reinsert all the cards (Modem, audio) and reconnected all the conectors (SATA2, and 4 IDE devices). Booted up and reentered the setup and set all my settings.
Anyway it all works now, nowI don't know if it was that I left the battery out all day, or that I reseated everything. So if this happens to you , try it all.
Anyway great forum and thanks again to all contribuitors and everyone that was willing to help.
Have a great night !!!

Cool. I was going to suggest first replugging all the drive cables, and then a BIOS reset if that didn't help, but I was late for an appointment. You did both! :~>
It seems odd, but over time, due to oxidation and vibration, you can get really weird behavior from poor connections. I fixed a bizarre memory problem when I got so frustrated I finally did the same thing you did...pulled everything out of the box and out it back together. It's been rock solid ever since. Glad you're back up.
