ATI UVD in AMD RS780 requires ~ 10% cpu utiliastion to decode VC-1
If you have been looking around for a mATX board that can do decoding of your HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. It seems that the AMD RS780 is the way to go In our ongoing test, we took two VC-1 titles (HDDVD) and play it back using PowerDVD.
To our surprise, the average CPU utilisation is around 9% for the HD HQV benchmark disc title 1 and around 15% for The Bourne Identiy, both HD DVD. In the past, only high end graphics cards are able to do that. This is the first time I see an integrated graphics chipset being able to deliver such low CPU utilisation decoding HD-DVDs. Most importantly, the North bridge remains cool to touch!
