AMD Radeon HD 4850 at 43 deg with fan at 100% 8000RPM!
One of the most annoying thing about AMD or ATi graphics card is it's noise. Surprisingly, the PowerColor HD 4850 based on Reference design is very quiet. The down side is that on idle the temperatures soar up to 80 deg celsius. That worried many users, wondering if this is a bug.
Everyone started testing out ATItool, Rivatuner and found that it doesn't work at all.
Well, if you bought the ASUS EACH 4850, you are in luck, the software that comes bundled with the package allows you to manually set the fan speed and also provide options for auto increasing fan speed.
We ran the software "smartdoctor" tested it and set the fan speed to MAX, a check using GPU-Z shows that it is running at 100% and nearly 8000RPM. It is also extremely noisy at this speed.
Before setting it, we noticed that the temperature on idle is 78-80 deg celsius. Once we increase the fan speed to maximum speed, the GPU temperature immediately drops and ends at 43 deg celsius. Do take note that when card is idle,PowerPlay kicks in and GPU is dropped to 500 MHz and mem to 750MHz as shown in the picture above.
We also use the tool to o/c the ccard to 700/993. 3DMark06 scored 13200. Default clk 625/993 gives a score of 13087. The
